Queen Elizabeth II: Balmoral Commemorative Tin Image with Union Jack shortbread in foreground

Launching in April 2023, Walkers’ Shortbread are delighted to announce release of their limited edition ‘Queen Elizabeth II: Balmoral’ commemorative tin, displaying an intimate and relaxed portrait of the late Queen taken at the Royal Family Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire. Taken in September 1952, the portrait captures Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with one of her beloved Corgis in the beautiful Balmoral grounds, a place where she was said to be at her happiest.

This distinguished tin adorns the official Royal Warrant for the supply of shortbread to the Royal Household as well as the tribute ‘Commemorating Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022’ in prominent embossed gold writing.

Walker’s Shortbread has shared a long association with the Royal Family and are proud to release this limited edition tin, containing Union Jack shaped shortbread, during their 125th anniversary year. Walker’s first official commemorative Royal Tin was launched in 1977 for Her Majesty’s Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee and they have continued to commemorate many major Royal milestone since.

Nicky Walker, Walker’s Shortbread Managing Director, comments: “Our family shared in the profound sadness on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II whose warmth and dedication was truly inspirational. We feel honoured as Royal Warrant Holders to have been able to create this special, keepsake tin with such a profound portrait.”

Sir Jim Walker CBE, Director and third generation of Walker’s Shortbread, was awarded with a CBE in the 1998 New Year Honour’s List and, most recently, was appointed a Knight Bachelor in the prestigious Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood on the Birthday 2022 Honours list.

He comments: “Our family have always shared in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II deep affection for Scotland and the beauty of its countryside, and we very much wanted to honour and pay homage to her and her remarkable seventy-year reign.”

Walker’s Shortbread, a family-owned business, opened their first ever bakery in 1898 in Torphins, close to Balmoral Castle, continue to faithfully use the same original recipe and ingredients, and were granted the Royal Warrant for the supply of oatcakes to the Queen in 2001 and for shortbread in 2017.

Botany Group are delighted to be involved in the launch of this new, elegant collector’s item, depicting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle, honouring and commemorating her seventy-year reign.
